Personal Fouls - Chapel

9/8/07 South Carolina vs. Georgia – 2 flags in opening quarter = 30 yds.
They seem to frequent the field in high school, college, professional sports.  They can come from many things – late hits, illegal blocks, and even words.  And when an official has seen enough he will usually throw the flag…
But how about beyond the field to our lives, is it really important what we say?

James 1:26 – If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is useless..
James 3:5/12 – The Tongue
Small – Fire – Wicked – Untamable – Praises God/Curses Men

  1. Slice orange / Squeeze juice into cup
  2. What comes from the orange when you squeeze it?  Whatever is inside…
  3. What comes out of us when we are squeezed? Easy when things are going our way – Someone smarts off, bad call, unfair etc…  Gentlemen life will always have these events

Luke 6:45 – The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil, for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart..

Our attitude and language reflects what is in our heart

Remember the crowd is watching you – and how you conduct yourself is important.  Little boys, girls, parents, friends, and GOD
If an official followed you for a day how many flags would I get?  If you struggle do what is necessary to get a clean heart.

Psalms 51:2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin
Colossians 3:17 – Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks thru him to God the Father.
Ps 141:3 – Set guard over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips
Respond like a Godly young man….And feel the power of what is right

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.  (John Wooden)

Do right. Do your best. Treat others as you want to be treated. (Lou Holtz)
