"Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?"
-1 Corinthians 3:16
Tiger Woods began the 2007 golf season the same way he ended the last one -- victorious. Woods won the Buick Open for the third-straight year and extended his PGA Tour winning streak to seven consecutive tournaments. Only Byron Nelson, who won 11 straight, has more. "As far as how special seven is, you're in elite company," Woods said. "There's only one person ahead of you. He's one of the greatest legends in the history of the game."
It's interesting to hear Tiger Woods talk about being in elite company with someone else, because there are many who would feel the same way about him. Similarly, most sports superstars can't live normal lives because people flock to them and want to be in their presence everywhere they go. (I seem to have the opposite problem.) But it occurred to me, as I read about Tiger Woods, how few Christians realize that they are in the most elite company possible. The Spirit of God actually dwells inside us. While this does not mean that we are "little gods," it does mean that we have an intimate, personal relationship with the God who created the whole universe and everyone in it.
Today, rejoice in the fact that, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are in elite company every day. "God has said, 'Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you'" (Hebrews 13:5b).
1. If you could spend one day with any coach or athlete, who would it be? Why?
2. How do you know that God lives in you? (1 John 3:23-24, Romans 8:13-16)
3. In what way has having the Holy Spirit in you changed your life?
