Most Powerful Tool
All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.–2 Timothy 3:16-17
What is your most powerful athletic tool? Is it the strength of your bench press, the drive from your leg squats, or your speed and agility? These are all important, but I think the most powerful tool is simply the ball. Think about it. Who is the most dangerous person in basketball? The man with the ball. The ball is needed to score—to win! Without the ball, Tiger Woods is just Eldrick; Michael Vick, just Mike; and Rocket Clemens, just Roger. It is what’s done with the ball that makes champions.
What is the most powerful tool in life? It is God’s Word—the Bible! In 2 Timothy, Paul tells us that Scripture teaches us what is right and wrong, helps us get it right, and prepares us to keep it right in our lives. Can you name another tool in life that can do all that? I can’t think of any. The Bible can save us, free us, change us, and protect us.
In many sports, without a ball the game is not what it is intended to be. In life with Christ, without His Word, we cannot be what He intended us to be. God’s Word is the tool that can fully equip and empower us to live a life pleasing to God.
1. Do you use the Bible as a tool, just carry it on Sundays, or leave it on the shelf?
2. How often are you using the most powerful tool you own?
3. How can you start to use God’s Word for greater purpose in your life?
Matthew 4:4; Ephesians 6:10-17; Hebrews 4:12
God, I want my most powerful tool to be the Bible—the sword of the Spirit. Write it on my heart and teach me how to use this sword so that I will be equipped for anything that might come my way. Amen.
