Appropriate Priorities
By Mark Jones
“Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Romans 12:2a
What if someone offered you a million dollars? You would be stoked, right? But what if the offer came with the stipulation that you would need to run a marathon in the coming 12 months? At first, you may still be stoked. A million dollars?! Oh, boy!
Hopefully, you would realize, “I need to run a marathon! That’s over 26 miles!” If you were serious about the million, you would need to get serious about training. Doing something hard takes commitment and possibly a change in priorities.
Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.” What’s cool is that the word used for “transformed” in Greek is the word from which we get “metamorphosis.”
To train for a marathon, you would have to change a lot in your life. You would need to have a running schedule, keep a strict diet, stay rested and hydrated and track your times. Your priorities would shift a lot! When it comes to becoming wise so we can follow the Lord’s desire, we need to “metamorphose” to change how we think and what we think of.
Do you spend time with the Lord in prayer? Do you meditate and ponder His Word? Are you careful with what you watch on TV or online? Don’t just conform to the world. Be transformed! If you want to re-prioritize to follow the Lord, consider these questions:
- What are the most important things you do to prep for your sport?
- How do you prep for your walk with the Lord?
- What changes do you need to make to prioritize your life in Christ?
“Father, I trust that You saved me through Christ and put the Holy Spirit within me. Thank You for that. Transform my mind and heart to be like Yours and walk closer to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
