Get Going

Ready

"Then Deborah said to Barak, Go! This is the day the Lord has handed Sisera over to you. Hasn’t the Lord gone before you?"-- Judges 4:14a

"When the leaders lead in Israel, when the people volunteer, blessed be the Lord."--Judges 5:2

Set

Have you ever had a player that "thought" a bit too much? Or have you ever been that player? As a coach, I am all for deliberate decision-making on and off the field, but there comes a time when instinct must take over, and athletes who have the confidence to make a decision and get going make an irreplaceable impact.

In Judges 4 and 5, Deborah praises those who "Get Going!" She also has a few taunts for those who spent a little too much time searching their hearts and hanging back by the sheep pens and ships (Vs. 5:15–17). In Judges 5:2, she says, "When leaders lead in Israel, when the people volunteer, blessed be the Lord."

FCA and countless other ministries and churches need leaders who will lead and people who will volunteer. As Deborah asked Barak in Judges 4:6, "Hasn’t the Lord the God of Israel commanded you to go…?

Only you know the rest of that sentence. And it hopefully came from searching your heart before the Lord, but once you have been commanded or nudged, let’s get going! Let’s be like the people of Zebulan and Napthali, who defied death on the heights of the battlefield while pursuing the work of the Lord! (Judges 5:18)

My heart is with the leaders of Israel, with the volunteers of the people. Blessed be the Lord! Judges 5:9

Go
  • Complete the sentence, “Hasn’t the Lord God commanded me to go….” Don’t overthink it. Ask God to reveal what He has put on your heart and write something down regardless of the size of the task, the amount of time it will take, or what it will cost.
  • Call someone and share with them how the Lord has commanded you to go.

Overtime

Lord, thank you for sending your Spirit to guide us. You are our guide and our strength. I confess to you that I can often let my need to be in control by knowing all of the details, hold back the instinct to trust and to go.  Be with your people today and command us which way to go. Let your leaders lead and your people volunteer and we strive together to see the world transformed by your Son through the influence of coaches and athletes. In Jesus' name, Amen.
