Giving Your All
“Summoning His disciples, He said to them, ‘Truly I tell you: This poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. For they all gave out of their surplus, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had—all she had to live on.’” -- Mark 12:43-44
There are many things that I count as a privilege in my athletic career. But the greatest privilege I’ve had was the opportunity to play for Coach Jerry Moore. He is a man of faith, integrity and passion. He had a slogan that we lived by: “What are you willing to give up?” His giving character fueled me and my teammates to be men who gave our all for what we believed in.
Jesus is attracted to those who give their all, like the poor widow mentioned in Mark 12. She laid her entire livelihood down, believing that it would make a difference. It wasn’t the amount as it compared to others or her circumstance that determined what she gave. Out of a selfless commitment to something larger than herself she gave everything that she had, knowing she was being faithful to her calling.
When circumstances get tough and the odds are against you in life or competition, what you are willing to give will make a difference in your life as a Christ-follower. It shows the level of your commitment to Him, inspiring your family, friends, teammates and coaches to do the same.
- Do you tend to let negative circumstances and momentum determine whether you give your all in your sport?
- What are you willing to sacrifice for the success of your team?
“Lord, thank You for giving Your best to me in Your Son, Jesus. I pray that You will give me the strength to give all that I have to constantly represent You. Amen.”
