Heart and Head

Ready

“One believes with the heart, resulting in righteousness, and one confesses with the mouth, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, Everyone who believes on him will not be put to shame,” – Romans 10:10-11

Set

Just because you watch film on a team doesn’t mean you will beat them in the game. Watching film gives you the intellectual knowledge to know how you might be able to beat them. You still have to show up on game day and play to be able to get the win. Simply saying you know how to beat a team is the first step.

Have you ever met someone who seems to know everything in the Bible? Did you know that you can know each verse in the Bible and still not be saved?

Romans 10 reminds us that it takes belief in one’s heart and not just your head to be saved. Simply having the knowledge of God and even knowing it is true is not the same as having active faith and belief. Charles Spurgeon says, “The faith that saves is not believing certain truths, nor even believing that Jesus is a Savior; but it is resting on him, depending on him, lying with all your weight on Christ as the foundation of your hope.”

You could have all the knowledge of Christ but have no relationship with Him. You must find a way to move from head knowledge to active faith, knowing and believing that Christ will save you, not just that He can.

Are you just resting on your knowledge of God, or are you taking a step out in faith today and resting that knowledge in Christ? You can do this by trusting God in every aspect of your life. By inviting Him in and not having any space reserved for yourself, give it all to Jesus. You have to step onto the field to win the game and put your knowledge into practice to have a genuine relationship with Christ.

  • What are you holding back from God right now?
  • How does this idea of head and heart knowledge challenge you?
  • What fears do you have about trusting Christ with your life?
Overtime

“Heavenly Father, You desire us to have a personal relationship with You. To have that relationship, we must trust in Your saving grace for our life and not hold anything back. Take away any fears and give us Your Holy Spirit to guide us as we walk each day closer to You. Amen.”
