More than Money

“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His one and only Son…” – John 3:16a

Set

As of 2023, at almost $6 billion, the Dallas Cowboys hold the claim of the most valuable sports franchise in the world. In fact, of the top 10 most valuable franchises in the world, half are American football teams. That would explain why the NFL is the most valuable sports league in the world, with a revenue of $17 billion a year. Soccer star Lionel Messi can boast the biggest contract in sports history, worth almost $700 million. That means he earned more than $4 million per game during that contract.

It is almost mind-blowing how much money there is in the world of sports. It is hard to grasp that our favorite sport, team or player can be worth so much money. But there is something worth even more than all that. 1 Timothy 2:5-6 says, “For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all, a testimony at the proper time.” Jesus paid a ransom for us with God.

Every person who ever lived has a debt of sin they cannot pay. That debt is what separates us from God. But He loved us so much that Jesus was sent to die on the cross and pay that debt for any who come to Him.

When you have a rough time in competition, have a failure that sets your goals back, or even when you just watch your favorite team, remember God has deemed you valuable. If you are in Christ, He has redeemed you, and that debt, that insurmountable sin debt, is gone. There is nothing worth more than that.
