What Are You Looking For?
"The one who searches for what is good finds favor, but if someone looks for trouble, it will come to him." –Proverbs 11:27
Have you ever heard the saying, “Whatever you’re looking for, you’re bound to find it”? It sure rings true today. The trouble is that many people are searching in all the wrong places.
What about us? What are we looking for? Are we looking for the good things in life? Proverbs 11 teaches that if we look for good, good things are bound to happen. But if we look for bad or evil things, watch out . . . We will probably find what we’re looking for. What about when dealing with friends and others? Do we look for the good in them or for something bad to use against them?
I know a man who sees the good in everyone. He may not care for everyone, but he always looks past the bad to see the good. What a great trait to have. It’s important to seek the good things in everything: spiritual truth, Scripture memorization, eternal memories with loved ones, and so forth. But too many times we seek the immediate quick fixes that take us down the wrong roads. One way to always find the good, however, is to keep Jesus first. When He is in control, the good rises to the surface. When we bury Him, bad things are bound to happen. So today, choose Jesus and the good that comes with Him!
1. What are you searching for out of life?
2. Do you find the good in life and in others?
3. Today, how can you start to look for the good and put off the bad?

Lord, teach me to search for You daily. I know this life offers many things, but only You can satisfy. Help me find You in my prayers, my reading of Your Word, and in all I do. Amen.
