Who is Your Starting QB?

Ready

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. – Matthew 6:33

Set

As a football fan, you know the starting quarterback for your team. You root and cheer them on and feel like all hope for the season is lost when they go down for an injury. Why? Because whether we like to admit it or not, we don’t have as much faith in that backup QB as we do in the starter.

Imagine being that backup quarterback. Typically, that person only goes into the game when something catastrophic happens. A lot of us only talk to Jesus when something catastrophic happens…

  • “Jesus, I’m not feeling good, come off the bench.”
  • “Jesus, my mom has cancer, I need your help so come off the bench.”
  • “Jesus, I’m a coach that might get fired this year, come off the bench I really need your help.”

How does that make Jesus feel when the only perfect being to ever walk the Earth is playing second string for us in our lives? He has to be thinking, “Watch my highlight tape, I can help you. I walked on water, I brought Lazarus back from the dead, I fed the 5,000 with five loaves of bread and two fish and yet you won’t start Me!”

It’s good to go to the Lord when times are hard, He wants to help you through it. But we should also go to Him when good things happen, too, because He has provided those blessings. Take time today to think about if you are starting Jesus at QB in your life, in the good and the bad. He’s never lost and He never will!

Go
  • What’s stopping you from putting Jesus first in your life?
  • How do you think your life would be different if you did decide to put him first?
  • If Jesus isn’t first, what is?
Overtime

“Lord, we aren’t capable of doing this life on our own and we certainly can’t do anything better than You. Help us to remember You in the good and the bad and to remember to go to You in all situations. Help us to remember to put You first in all situations and to never doubt that You are capable to do all things. Amen.”
