Chicken Little
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."
-Deuteronomy 31:6
The main difference between a good quarterback and a great quarterback is the ability to not panic. The great quarterback knows there is always time to win. A great player pulls the game out of fire with minutes or even seconds left.
The classic story of panic evolves a little guy called Chicken Little. This was an instance when a nut caused a great deal of trouble. The poor little guy was hit with an acorn falling from a tree and believed the sky was falling.
Back in my hometown we had our own version of Chicken Little. A man walking home one Saturday had a big block of ice land at his feet. He ran through the village screaming. As people became aware of what was happening, a lot of speculation followed. The paper did a story that continued to run for a few days. A policeman investigating said it was the coldest ice he ever felt. Some felt atomically altered hailstones caused it. Others believed aliens dropped it. This went on for more than a week. Finally one lady admitted she threw the ice off her back porch while cleaning her freezer.
As humans we have a tendency to panic. But God promises security. He promises to fulfill all our needs and never leave nor forsake us. We can be secure in the knowledge that the Lord never breaks a promise. The life of Jesus is the consummate answer of a promise fulfilled. (Romans 10:9)
