Is Christ on the mound with you?
"And Peter answered him, 'Lord, if it is you, bid me come to you on the water.' He said, 'Come.' So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus."
-Mathew 14: 28-31
Baseball is a game that can be dominated by a pitcher. It seems that no matter how well a hitter prepares for a game, if a pitcher is “on” and executes his pitches, there is really nothing a hitter can do. Many times a hitter will try to “step out” in order to disrupt the rhythm of the pitcher. Or, in other situations where a pitcher is dominant, the hitter may try bunting in order to get on base.
In a way, this is a great analogy of our lives with Christ. If we are "on the mound" in the world and staying focused on Jesus, allowing Him to be there with us and guide us, we can pitch a virtual no-hitter and overcome the things of this world. True, Satan may try to “step out” or “bunt” in order to draw our attention away from Christ; but like Peter the Rock, if we focus on Christ and keep our faith, He will bring us to victory.
1. Do you look to Jesus in all of life's situations?
2. Do you thank Jesus for being there when things aren't going so well, and do you thank Him as these events cause your faith to grow?
