Heart Words
“…For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.” -- Matthew 12:34
Camp season is the best season! When I was young, I loved attending FCA Leadership Camp with fellow Huddle Leaders, couldn’t wait to start serving at FCA Surf Camp, as well as volunteering to lead at my local FCA Power Camp a few years in a row. Whether you were once an excited Camper or are now experiencing Camp while serving as a coach, Huddle Leader, Camp Director or volunteer your role is vital to making Camp excellent for every athlete.
Long before you were even thinking about Camp, God knew you’d be in the role you’ve been given today. You were chosen to be here, handpicked by God to coach, lead, encourage, serve and grow at Camp. You are needed, deeply appreciated and valuable in making Camp what God desires it to be. This is a great honor! As you prepare for Camp, pack your backpack, gather your equipment and put on your Camp t-shirt, do not forget to prepare your heart for Camp as well.
Athletes of all ages, ability levels, backgrounds and faith will be in attendance at Camp. Some have been waiting months for Camp, and others will be anxious and nervous. They will be looking to you for support, advice, wisdom, encouragement on and off the field, and God has called you to love each one just as He has loved you. More than just checking off your to-do list for Camp, make sure your heart is ready! The Bible tells us that the words we say come from our hearts.
If our hearts are filled with anger, impatience and selfishness our words and actions will be too. Fill your heart with the Holy Spirit! Get into God’s Word every single day, pray and ask God to fill you with the fruits of the Holy Spirit, and your words and actions will reflect Jesus to those you are leading and serving. Your words are powerful--be prepared for God to use you and to speak through you at Camp. Speak words from a heart that strive to represent Jesus well to the Campers you will engage with at Camp!
- Do you feel your heart is ready for Camp?
- What can you do today to be spiritually ready for how God is going to use you at Camp?
- What does it look like to reflect the heart of God with your words and actions?
Galatians 5:22-23; Ephesians 4:29; Psalm 19:14
“Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity to serve at Camp. I want to lead well, forgive me when my words do not reflect Your heart. Help me to speak and lead the way You have designed me to. I love You. In Jesus’s name, I pray, Amen.”
