New Beginnings
“In the beginning, God created…” These are familiar words to most people. We know the conclusion of this verse refers to the creation of the world.
Sometime in a humorous vein, those of us who love baseball will try to identify the Creator with our game by quoting the above as “In the big inning…” I believe there is an important lesson to be learned from the first five words in the Bible, one that relates more to those of us who live on the earth than to the earth itself.
God did not stop creating thousands of years ago when He put in His week’s work and rested on the seventh day. Genesis 1:1 is not the only “beginning” for our Lord. The good news of the gospel is that God wants to create a new beginning in each of our lives.
As I reflect on my years of coaching, I can vividly remember the euphoria that existed each year as I would go to the equipment room and bring out the bats, balls, gloves, spikes, and uniforms. But an almost equal sense of euphoria was experienced at the end of the season when I would put the same equipment away.
For all of us who claim Christ as Lord of our lives, there is a “beginning” when we accept Christ as our Savior. It could even be referred to as “the Big Inning.” God has many more beginnings in store for our lives. He wants to re-create us for new challenges and empower us anew for responsibilities that are headed our way. When we fall, He anxiously awaits our request to provide a new beginning in our lives.
1. Is it time for a new beginning in your life?
2. Does the current chapter of your life, as it is presently being lived out, need to come to an end?
3. What are some “new beginnings” you would like to see in your life?
