Philippians 2:3
Philippians 2:3
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Hockey Chat: Goalies know that in any odd man situation they take the shooter. The shooter on the other hand juggles his decision to take the shot or pass it. If you have a clear pass, it’s always best to pass it to an open guy on the other side of the net. That makes the goalie have to reposition himself to take the pass receiver as the shooter. It’s tough for the initial guy with the puck to give up the glory to make the pass but it’s for the benefit of the team. But often times we question who that guy is that is open. Is he going to connect with the pass? Will he make the quick move to put it in? Just consider that he will. In this situation, he better than you. Maybe skill for skill, one-on-one he’s not. But at that moment he is better because he is not the goalies focus, you are with the puck. Consider the interest of the whole team to win and make the smart move.
Life Lesson: We often consider ourselves better and smarter than others. We know best and we can do it better. Yet that self conceitedness leads us to separation by saying we are above are fellow man. God created all of us with the same abilities and same faults. We all can achieve great things and we all struggle with sin. Look past your own interests and to the interests of you family, both church and home. Work together for the great plan God has in store.
