Stand Firm
“Be alert, stand firm in the faith, be courageous, be strong.” – 1 Corinthians 16:13
Sometimes the greatest threat to a team comes from within.
It slips in with teammates who are being selfish. All they care about is playing time and their performance. It can happen with those who are being lazy. Their effort in practice is half-hearted, at best. Sometimes, a threat sneaks in through disrespectful attitudes in the classroom or at home that end up spilling over to the team.
When these threats are identified, how do you respond? Will you stand firm for the team? What if the threat is coming for your faith?
The Bible tells us there is an enemy that is looking to distract you and pull you away from the things of God.
In sports, we can identify our opponent, but the enemy of your faith can be harder to identify. It can look like mindless social media scrolling, obsessing over likes or swipes, binge-watching a show that may not glorify God, friend drama that doesn’t seem to make sense, loneliness, feeling left out and so much more.
Standing firm in the faith requires you to be connected to the Vine (John 15:4). It means talking with Him about your life and listening to what He has to say. We stand firm for our team when we have courageous, accountability-based conversations. The same is true for standing firm in the faith.
Be courageous in your connection with the LORD and spend time with Him so you can withstand the threats that are coming.
- Do you love your team enough to have courageous conversations?
- What steps are you taking to stand firm in the faith?
- Who in your life can walk with you as you do that?
“Lord, help me to stand firm in the faith. Protect me from the enemy. Help me to be a light to my team and someone who holds the line. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
