The Power of God
“O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you.”
-2 Chronicles 20
I have been on an amazing journey this year just watching God perform powerful miracles in my life. For those of you who have not read any of my previous Impact Plays, I am on a quest to be the first person with Multiple Sclerosis to compete in a NPC bodybuilding contest. And I am approaching my 50th birthday!
I have watched God transform me from 168 pounds to 215 pounds while training harder than the 20 year-old guys in the gym. No one thought a person with MS could possibly train this hard and make these types of gains. But as I tell them, the power of God is much stronger than the will or flesh of man. My doctors say it is miraculous that with MS, a disease that attacks the nervous system and leaves a person in a state of constant fatigue, that I have the strength or energy to push this hard in the gym. I believe, with all that is in me, that the Lord is the One training me and pushing me through these grueling workouts. It is His power, not mine, that is enabling me to defy the odds set before me.
I see the great and mighty power of God moving to prove a point. And that point is that He can make miracles happen, and that with faith in Him all things are possible. Psalm 77:14 says, “You are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples.”
As I continue to walk through this journey of faith, I see that God has the power to overthrow you in battle or declare you victorious, and it is up to us through our faith and belief to allow God to bring us to the victories in life. He is a God of miracles who is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is alive today as He was in the beginning, performing miracles in the lives of those who are faithful and obedient.
When I look in the mirror every morning, before I start a new day, I see a man that could have been overthrown in my battle, but instead, I thank God that His power is still present and that He has chosen me to be an example to the world. I praise Him and worship Him in all that I accomplish, for those achievements are a testimony to God’s mercy, grace and power to bring the righteous to victory.
1. When the world tells you that it is impossible to accomplish a goal, do you look to the power of God or the weakness of the unbeliever?
2. Do you truly believe in your heart that the power of God is as strong today as it was when Jesus walked the earth?
3. Are you praising God when you accomplish a seemingly impossible task?
