Water Boy
“If anyone is thirsty, he should come to Me and drink! The one who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, will have streams of living water flow from deep within him.”–John 7:37b-38
In the heat of the day, after a drill or competition, athletes crave water. Suddenly the person in demand is the water boy/girl. Being the water boy is not a well-recognized position, but we sure are thankful for their presence. The water boy, managers, or trainers bring relief and refreshment. The thirst of the athlete is quenched and they are able to continue. Without that water, the player’s performance would be weakened.
We are also spiritually thirsty. I’ve noticed a change in people’s attitude toward God, a lack of moral behavior, and a rise in materialism. A lack of love, bad moral choices, and the absence of parental involvement may be part of the problem; but what I believe we need is the nourishment of God’s Spirit.
God’s people need to pray for a downpour of His presence. As children of God, we have the “Living Water” in us. We are spiritual water boys walking an arid earth. We have the opportunity to be a water boy for God! Throughout the day, we have the opportunity to pour out God’s love to those in need. I pray that we will seek God, soak up His Word, and know that He is the Living Water. Then take what He has given us, water our team, school, family, work place, and community.
1. What ways can you see the world withering away in sin?
2. Have you felt thirsty for God’s presence lately?
3. What is your daily plan to be watered by God?
4. What is your plan to water others?
Psalms 1:1-3; 42:1; Isaiah 44:1-5; Jeremiah 2:13
Lord, I admit there are times when I thirst for You. I see this world withering away without You. Pour out Your Spirit on me and quench my dry soul. Help me to pour out Your love to others. Amen.
