Every summer, I head out to Volleyball Beach to play sand volleyball. It’s one of my favorite places to be. Every week, we play against other local teams who have the same passion and love for volleyball as we do. The only downfall, which is also a blessing, is that these games are unofficiated. If an infraction happens like being in the net, line faulting, or doubling a ball, it’s on the individual player to call out his or her mistake and give the point to the other team. It can be great and appreciated when someone takes responsibility and follows the rules; however, there are always players who will try to cover it up or lie about breaking the rules.

In Galatians 2:17-19, Paul talks about how as humans, we’re naturally inclined to sin. As sinners, we often abandon God’s laws. But should we feel guilty, shame, and worthless constantly? According to Paul, absolutely not. With Christ and through prayer, we are saved for our sins. He rescues us for our sins today, tomorrow, next week, and the years following!

Like the players who try to cover up their infractions, there will also be sin in our lives—whether we sin or we see someone else sin. As simply put, it’s a fact of earthly life. But when we remember that we are saved by Christ through prayer, we can focus on how to love, empower, and encourage others with the Good News of Christ.
