Representation
“Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf: ‘Be reconciled to God.’” – 2 Corinthians 5:20
As an athlete growing up, the proudest moment of my life was making the basketball team in eighth grade. It is a favorite memory not just because I earned a spot on a school team for the first time but because I earned the right to wear the jersey and represent my school.
No matter how much or how little I played, it meant so much to be able to put on that uniform and work to honor my school well. I tried hard to play with effort and good sportsmanship whenever I wore that jersey.
If you have faith in Jesus Christ, you represent Jesus. 2 Corinthians 5:20 says, “… we are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making his appeal through us. We plead on Christ’s behalf: ‘Be reconciled to God.’”
Wherever we go, it is as if we are wearing His jersey because of the Holy Spirit within us. As the verse says, our representation of Jesus can help people learn about Him and His work on the cross.
When you have on your school uniform and are playing your sport, you want to play AND represent your school to the best of your ability. It should be the same in our walks with Jesus.
When we follow the Lord as closely as possible AND show His love to others, we will represent our Savior to the best of our ability.
- How did you feel the first time you “made the team”?
- What comes to mind when you hear that YOU are Christ’s ambassador?
- Understanding that you represent Jesus, how does that affect how you live your life?
“Father, I am so grateful for what Your Son did on the cross for me. Help me and give me the strength, even today, to represent You as best I can. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
