This may have been derived after NHL President Frank Calder, referencing the 1918 rules change that allowed goalies to fall down to make a save, remarked, "They could stand on their head, if they wanted to." Basically it means they are giving their all to stop pucks.

Life Lesson: Jesus gave his all so that we may win the game of life. He made the full sacrifice of life so that we would not face an eternal death. He did it unselfishly for you in hopes that you would draw close to him to know the everlasting life in heaven he is offering you.
