AWEsome Attitude
By Rex Stump
“He is your praise and he is your God, who has done for you these great and awe-inspiring works your eyes have seen.” --Deuteronomy 10:21
There’s a story about a time when Jesus healed a boy possessed by a demon. This boy had been possessed his whole life, causing him pain as well as no freedom, no joy, and no peace. Jesus approached the scene and the people went crazy! “They were overwhelmed with awe” and “They ran to greet Him” (Mark 9:15, NLT). Like a mob of junior high girls chasing down their favorite boy band, the people ran to see Jesus.
I once watched a tremendous high school football playoff game. The home team was winning 9–7 with 17 seconds left on the game clock. The visiting team had the chance to win the game with what seemed to be an inevitable field goal. But as the ball was snapped, the defense gave just enough of a push to get through and block the field goal. The home stands erupted in amazement and joy. The awe displayed at the game was similar to the awe people had for Jesus in this story.
There are times in which we humbly and quietly approach our Lord in worship. But there are also times in which we need to be in awe, cheering our socks off, and running to Him! Our God's not dead! He is alive, AWEsome, and worth running to!
- Do you run to meet Jesus? Why or why not?
- What are some ways you can approach the Lord in worship?
Father, You are awesome! Your miracles are outstanding. Give me an attitude change. Let me run freely to you with amazement. Amen.
