Fantastic Future
By Dave Kubal
"Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and wondrous things you do not know."
-Jeremiah 33:3
It was the biggest decision of my life: What was I going to be when I grew up? I was a junior in high school, and I felt like I had to decide what college to attend and what my major would be. And to those pressure-packed questions I added the anxiety of getting a high score on my ACTs. I remember thinking, "How can I make such big decisions? There are so many choices! How will I know what to choose?"
Jeremiah 33:3 says, "Call to Me, and I will answer you and tell you great and wondrous things you do not know." This truth spoke to me during those days. Before I took the time to ask the Lord, I was planning on being an engineer. I had the college picked out, and there was a VP of a major company that wanted me to intern with them. I was set! Great job, great income, great future.
As I called to the Lord, however, I began to sense that He had something else in store for me. By faith I changed colleges and majors. I made decisions by faith one by one, without having a sense of the ultimate destination. Someone told me during those days that God was even more interested in my future than I was. That was, and still is, a profound truth. God cares more about my future than I do. I care a lot about my future, but God cares even more.
Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are His creation—created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them." This was another great truth for me at that time. I am created by God for good works, which He prepared for me before I was even born. All of the great things I am to do for God are already laid out for me to accomplish—I simply need to "walk" in them.
There are two great truths for you as you consider what you are going to do with the rest of your life:
- Call on God, and He will direct you.
- He has already created a great adventure for you.
These two truths can give you great peace as you begin your life and get "game ready" for the future.
1. Do you believe that God cares more about your future than you do? Why or why not?
2. Have you ever made a decision based on faith in God? What was the outcome?
3. What desires has God placed in your heart?
