God's Glory, Part 2
“Where can I go to escape your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, you are there. If I fly on the wings of the dawn and settle down on the western horizon, even there your hand will lead me; your right hand will hold on to me.”- Psalm 139:7-10
Yesterday, we discussed our mountaintop moments with God. Mountaintop moments don’t happen every day.
When you step up to the plate you are not always hitting home runs but base hits. You might not always score the winning goal, but you made a solid pass to give your teammate an open shot. Today, a scholarship might not come in the mail, but the hours of practice you put in did not go unnoticed.
Psalm 139 is David’s beautiful words describing how God’s glory is around us in our everyday lives. Through the few verses above, we see that God’s glory follows us wherever we go. God’s hand is always leading and guiding us through life.
Life isn’t lived on the mountaintops but instead in the valley. The valley, though, is where things grow and life lives. Day in and day out, faithful service to God shows us His glory in the mundane tasks we complete. These tasks and this form of glory are no less important than the one Moses experienced on the mountaintop with God. That form of glory needed boldness to produce bold action. God’s everyday glory is just as powerful and mighty, giving us the constant strength to keep working for His kingdom.
The mundane tasks of life can feel as if nothing is ever getting done or accomplished because you usually don’t see immediate results from your work. Remember it is the same God. On the mountaintop and in the valley, He is walking with you in both.
- How have you seen God’s glory in your everyday life?
- What stands out to you as you read the rest of Psalm 139?
- What tasks are weighing you down today?
“Lord God, we know that Your glory is with us in every task that we do. With each breath and step we take, You guide us through it. Help us to not get discouraged, but know that we must work daily to reach the top of the mountain. Your glory is always with us; let us never forget that. Amen.”
