Walking Hand in Hand
By Emily Hill
“The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand.” -- Psalm 37:23-24
Sitting on the bench, catching my breath and collecting my thoughts, I once again recognized my coach’s family in the stands. His two young daughters always waved and cheered from their spot in the bleachers, often accompanying us to the locker room. Rarely did I ever see Coach’s hand free as his youngest daughter grasped his whenever she could reach it. It wasn’t until one moment in the middle of a big game that I realized how the Lord desires to hold my hand.
As a daughter of the King, I imagine myself holding the hand of my heavenly Father as He leads me in every detail of my life.
The Lord directs the steps of all believers. He delights in every detail, athletic competitions included. Even when we make mistakes on the court or in life, He is right there holding our hand, encouraging His sons and daughters to take the next step with Him.
Resting on the sidelines and remembering Who we belong to refuels us as we step back into the game. As an athlete ready to compete, I remember the Father who delights in every detail, from the points, I score to the Christ-like attitude I display.
- Does the Lord direct your steps?
- Do you pray and talk to talk to God about every detail of your life?
- Do you trust Him with the big and little details?
- Are you walking hand in hand with the heavenly Father today?
Psalm 139:1-6; Proverbs 3:5-6; Isaiah 41:10-13
“Father, thank You for directing my steps and delighting in every detail of my life! Help me to walk hand in hand with You today.”
