Going All the Way
By Arbor Diggs
“If you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” – Romans 10:9
In baseball and softball, a team can only score if a player crosses home plate. When a baseball or softball player crosses home plate, the crowd erupts and a run is added to the scoreboard for their team. But no matter how well they play, how fast they run or how hard they hit the ball, they don’t get a run unless they cross home plate.
God makes it clear in His Word how we become saved. Paul tells us in Romans that we must go all in and go all the way. We must personally confess with our mouths and believe that Jesus is our Lord, and we will be saved. Salvation doesn’t come from our church attendance, how good of a person we are, or if we follow all the rules or live a great life. Salvation comes only from crossing the home plate of confession and believing in Jesus.
Once we have crossed the home plate of salvation, our names are added to the scoreboard of eternity. And nothing can take that point away. No matter if we mess up, have a bad season in life or feel distant from God, nothing can take away our salvation. Once we cross home plate for God, our salvation is forever on the board. We should rejoice in this!
If you have been doing all the Jesus things right but have yet to run to the home plate of salvation, today is the day. God is waiting at home plate for you, Heaven is waiting to erupt in cheers for you, and eternity is ready to add another run to the board of salvation.
- What does it mean to have salvation in Jesus?
- How does it make you feel knowing nothing can take away your salvation?
- If you haven’t run home to Jesus, what is keeping you from home plate?
- Who can you share this truth with today?
“God, thank You for Your love and forgiveness! I know I have fallen short and messed up, and I am in need of a Savior, Your Son Jesus. I believe He died for me, and I want to live forever in Your love. I believe with my whole heart and ask You to be with me forever as God of my life. Amen.”
