What Does it Mean to Be on God's Team, Pt. 1

Ready

“And he himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, to build up the body of Christ, until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son, growing into maturity with a stature measured by Christ’s fullness.” – Ephesians 4:11-13

Set

When a season concludes, it’s common to host an end-of-year party or banquet to reflect on the past season. These are significant events because the main idea is to see how much the team has grown.

The team grows in skill level, companionship, mental and emotional toughness, and individual skills. In whichever area a team grows, it’s nice to celebrate the building up of that team to a level it was not at before. Everyone can sit and reflect and take pride in a season of hard work and dedication.

When you reflect, what improvements or growth have you added to the Kingdom of God this season? Have you grown in love for your neighbor or been able to pray for your enemy? Have you embraced the talents and gifts the Holy Spirit has given you to grow the Body of Christ? In Ephesians, we are told of our roles for building up the Kingdom of God. Each role is different, but the goal is the same: to grow the Body of Christ and grow yourself.

Once we accept Christ and join God’s team, we don’t get to sit on the bench; we have jobs to do. The Holy Spirit gives us gifts to help us achieve the tasks, but we are also supposed to see internal growth as we step into God’s work. So, what role are you playing in the Kingdom?

Go
  • What gifts has the Holy Spirit given You to build up the Body of Christ?
  • Do you see yourself as having an essential role on God’s team?
  • How would you like to grow in this upcoming season?
Overtime

“Lord God, thank You for giving us jobs to do for Your kingdom. Help us not to be distracted by tasks in this world but focus on how we can use the gifts that the Holy Spirit gives us to build up Your Body. Show us today where we need to grow and step up to be active players for Your team. Amen.”
