What is Mine
“Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” – Philippians 2:12
With my father being a baseball coach, it was only natural that my brother played baseball. He coached him from T-ball, all the way through high school.
The question was never asked if my brother wanted to play. It was simply what was done year after year. It wasn’t until college, after playing for two years, that my brother finally decided what he wanted to do. He stopped playing what he was told and discovered his own path.
If you grew up in church, there is a time to decide what you believe. If your parents are Christians, you likely believe what they believe because they taught you their beliefs.
Consequently, as we age, we must make our faith our own. We have to decide what we believe so that we can create our own convictions. Just because your parents, friends or siblings have a relationship with Christ does not mean that you do as well. Christ desires a personal relationship with you; do you have that?
My brother never applied his full talents to his sport because he never personally bought in. The same goes for your faith. If you never make your own convictions and establish your own relationship with Christ, then you won’t pursue Him with all you have.
It’s time to examine your own life. Have you created your own foundation, or do you believe simply because You were told to?
- Can you remember when your faith became your own?
- What is something you are wrestling with in your faith?
- How can you move away from relying on others to depending on God?
“Lord God, You desire that each of us have a personal relationship with You. Depending on the faith of others is not drawing us to You; show us where we need to create our own convictions so that we can live passionately for You. Amen.”
