Believe

“Do you believe that I can do this?” -- Matthew 9:28
In the 2014 NCAA Championship, the University of Connecticut men’s basketball team was the underdog no one believed could win. But after UConn won, their second-year head coach, Kevin Ollie, said, “They believed in a vision before anyone could see it. They stuck with it through down times when we were losing. When we were winning, they stayed together, and they believed it was possible.” (ESPN, 2014)
Just one month prior, UConn lost to Louisville by 33 points. After the game, UConn’s point guard, Shabazz Napier, walked into the locker room and told the team that they would be holding the National Championship trophy one month later. Everyone in that locker room believed him.
Often in sports and in life, we face seemingly insurmountable odds. An opponent that seems unbeatable; injuries, losses and a whole host of other things try to derail our hope. In life, other issues and adversities cause us to doubt God’s love.
In Matthew 9:28, Jesus asks two blind men, “Do you believe that I can do this (making them see)?” When they answered, “Yes, Lord,” they did so in faith. Jesus said, “Let it be done for you according to your faith!” (Matthew 9:29) Jesus blessed these two men with this miracle because of their faith.
Similarly, in our lives, we must believe that God is powerful enough to overcome any trials we face.
- In the face of adversity are you instilling belief in your team?
- Does faith or fear come first when you and your team are up against seemingly unbeatable odds?
“Lord, I believe in You and Your plan for my life. Help me to believe in You and Your plan no matter what. Amen.”
