Devotional

Start Today

Ready

"But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."
-Joshua 24:15

Set

As I write these devotions, I always try to challenge the readers with the questions at the end. I find myself beginning my final questions with "start today" or "today, how can you start…" In a society that is so goal-oriented, we sure procrastinate a lot. Why do something today that can wait until tomorrow? We say, "It can wait," or "I will have time later to get to it." Is it because we are self-serving, or because we simply aren't willing to do what it takes TODAY to make necessary changes in our lives?

We all are creatures of habit. Most of the time our habits are worthy of change or in desperate need of it. However, we rarely do anything about changing them. This creeps into every aspect of our lives — athletically, socially and spiritually. Bad habits, wrong choices and mistakes lead us into areas in life that need changing.

Joshua challenged the people of his day to make a choice. He challenged them to CHOOSE TODAY whom they would serve! He made it quite clear at the end of the verse Who he would be following, as well. I know life is tough and things do not always go our way. But we are the ones who cause a lot of those problems. Our choices and decisions are not always God-centered and eventually lead us down the wrong paths. We are given a map that leads out of the despair, but we have to make a choice!

I want to encourage you to start today making the necessary changes you need to make in order to follow Christ 100 percent. He wants ALL of you, not just the part you are willing to give. He does not promise us tomorrow, either. Start today! Make that change, waking up everyday and living closer to Him than the day before. It is up to you! You will not regret it.

Don't look back. You can't change one thing that happened yesterday, so live in this day! Start right now to live for Him!

Go

1. Do you need a fresh start? A new beginning? A re-do in life?
2. What habits to you need to change in order to grow closer in your walk with Him?
3. TODAY, how can you start to live for God?
