Made to Worship
“As he rode along, the crowds spread out their garments on the road ahead of him. When he reached the place where the road started down the Mount of Olives, all of his followers began to shout and sing as they walked along, praising God for all the wonderful miracles they had seen. ‘Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!’ But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, ‘Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!’ He replied, ‘If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!’” -- Luke 19:36-40
I recently got back from hiking for four days in the Grand Canyon. During these four days, the beauty that surrendered us could only invoke one response from us, “God is Good.”
It was almost impossible to look up at the vast night sky with stars sprinkled on every inch and not believe in our Almighty Father. As we passed by canyon ridges, towering waterfalls and rocks the size of modern-day homes, praise and wonder filled our hearts.
Hillsong’s worship track titled, So Will I, played on repeat during these four days with the lyrics, “If the stars are made to worship, so will I, If the rocks cry out in silence, so will I,” on a loop in my head.
Looking back, I finally understand the meaning behind these lyrics. It comes from Luke 19 when Jesus enters Jerusalem and the Pharisees are angry at the amount of praise that He is given as He comes into town. The Pharisees ask Jesus to rebuke the people for their praise. Jesus replied, “‘If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers’” (Luke 19:40).
Jesus is meant to be praised. God designed us to praise our father with all our might. Our Savior is so worthy of praise that even if we did not praise Him, He could make the rocks cry out in praise for Him. They cry out in their way of complete beauty that makes us, as observers/companions of these rocks, stand in awe.
As you continue your competition today, remember, it’s not about how many reps we do, how many points we score, home runs we hit or milestones we reach. What matters is that we give praise to the One who created us, saves us and gives us purpose.
- What stops you from praising The Father?
- Look around you, what do you see that makes you think of God’s goodness?
- Do you believe God is worthy of your praise?
Deuteronomy 10:21; Jeremiah 20:13
“God of all creation, we give you praise for all that You are. For creating us, we praise You endlessly. If there is anything in our hearts and minds that prevents us from praising You, we pray You remove it and place in us a spirit of joy towards You and Your Kingdom.”
