Who Do You Play For?
“For am I now trying to persuade people, or God? Or am I striving to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.” – Galatians 1:10
Who do you compete for? Do you step onto the field each game, hoping to get your dad’s approval? Maybe you play to hear the crowd chant your name. Perhaps if you finally make varsity, your crush will finally notice you.
If we are honest, our lives can quickly revolve around seeking the approval of our peers. It’s a natural human desire to want to feel wanted and loved by those around us. This endless pursuit of approval will always leave you exhausted and unfulfilled. Even after you finally achieve your elusive goal, you might find that you are still left wanting. So, what do we do?
We do what Galatians tells us to do. We choose to not please people but choose each day to please God. God is the only complete and perfect love we will experience. So, pursuing Him will never come up short.
How do we please God? We love Him (Mark 12:30-31), love His people (John 13:34-35), and tell others about Him (Matthew 28:16-20).
This pursuit will leave you feeling loved and secure; if that is something you desire, choose to seek the approval of God over man.
- Honestly reflect, who do you play/coach for?
- Examine your life. Is it one where you are pursuing God above all else?
- If no one ever saw you play/succeed in your sport, would you still want to play?
“Heavenly Father, You’re the only true picture of love we will ever see. Convict us and show us areas where we seek love and approval from other sources outside of You. Give us direction toward pursuing You in everything we do. Amen.”
