Worth the Wait

Ready

"If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body."
-Philippians 1:22-24

Set

He knew it could be his day. He had been there before, but today would be different. Phil Mickelson finally landed his first major tour victory after 46 attempts. Draining an 18-foot putt on the final hole of the tournament could not have made it any sweeter. He had waited for a long time for this victory, and it was worth the wait.

Mickelson did not give up hope of winning a major. He longed for the time when he would celebrate this prestigious honor. Watching the joy on his face as he put on the coveted green blazer last Sunday made me think of how great it will be when we get to spend eternity with Jesus. Paul had those feelings as well. He longed to be with Jesus in Heaven, but knew he had work to do on earth. Therefore, he waited, knowing that it would be worth the wait in the end.

Now that Mickelson has won his first major, he will not sit back and say that one was enough. No, he will prepare himself everyday for the next victory. Jesus wants us to do the same — long for the next spiritual victory for Him. We need to continue to serve Him faithfully until our wait is over. Only He knows when that time will be, but the wait will be worth it all!

1. Do you long for things of this earth or of Heaven?
2. What have you been waiting for as an athlete? Will it be worth the wait?
3. Is Heaven going to be your eternal home? Not sure? Do not be left out! Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior TODAY!
