Do-Over

Ready

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.–2 Corinthians 5:17

Set

I don’t know about other neighborhoods, but when I was younger we had the “do-over.” If our feet went out from under us or we miskicked the ball in a kickball game, what were the first words out of our mouths? “Do-over!”

Amazingly, God gave us a do-over! Paul wrote to the church in Corinth that when they accepted Christ, they were a new creation. The same is still true for us. When we accept Christ as Savior and Lord, we are a new creation. This means that no matter what our lives were like before we knew Christ or how many times we slip, we get a chance to do it again, completely free of charge.

God does not keep a list of our mistakes, no matter how awful we may think they are. What an amazing thing. Our lives are radically changed when we give them over to Jesus. The old is gone and we are a new creation.

Go

1. Have you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord?
2. How are you living the new life Jesus has given you in your sport?
3. If you are not living your new life, what is holding you back? What are some areas you are not allowing God's forgiveness to cleanse?
4. If you are a new creation, how do you demonstrate that to your teammates, coaches, friends, etc.?

Overtime

Lord, thank You for dying on the cross for my sin. Thank You for paying the price and allowing me to have a do-over even though I don’t deserve it. Help me to fully understand what it means to be a new creation in Christ and help me to live a radically changed life for You! Amen.
