Such a Time as This
“Mordecai told the messenger to reply to Esther, ‘Don’t think that you will escape the fate of all the Jews because you are in the king’s palace. If you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will come to the Jewish people from another place, but you and your father’s family will be destroyed. Who knows, perhaps you have come to your royal position for such a time as this.’” – Esther 4:13-14
Often, we want to be in any place but where our feet are planted. We have big dreams for the future and hate that reality seems so far from those dreams.
You might be playing on your junior varsity team and wish each day to get a shot at varsity. You may be starting to coach at a small school and dream of moving up the ladder to coach at your dream school. What if you stopped looking so far ahead and looked at where you currently are? What would you see?
God has placed us in positions for such a time as this to make a lasting impact precisely where we are. Esther was born an ordinary Jewish girl who became a queen for no reason other than this was the stop God had for her. While queen, she had to make a huge decision to save her people, the Jews, from a horrible fate. At the time, Esther was thinking about her future and how interfering with the king’s laws could cost her her life. She had to remember that God had made her queen for a reason: He had placed her in this season to make lasting change. Even though she was scared about what would happen in the future, she knew she was queen for such a time as this.
We all have big dreams and goals, but don’t let that distract you from the here and now. God has each one of us placed to make a change in this world. Don’t miss out on partnering with God in His excellent plan in favor of a plan that you think might be better.
Today, stop looking so far ahead and start looking around at what you can do here and now.
- Do you know why God has put you in your current place?
- How do your dreams stop you from being present today?
- Are there things that God has called you to that you are avoiding due to fear?
“God our Father, thank You for giving us this day. Each day You bless us is another opportunity to participate in your divine plan for our life. Help us see what’s around us today and not just focus on the future. You have called each of us to help Your kingdom; give us strength to be bold and do Your will, Amen.”
