Job to Job

Ready

"Cast your burden on the LORD, and He will support you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken."
-Psalm 55:22

Set

As coaches, we spend long hours watching film--film of our practices or film of our opponent. We spend countless hours on the telephone talking to recruits or high school coaches. Our day starts before the sun comes up, and sometimes we don't get home until our children are sound asleep.

The Lord has appointed us to become coaches, and how honored we are! And now with the season nearing its end, the "silly season" begins. Yes, the silly season. When, for the next month or so, there will be many firings and hirings. Numerous coaches will be removed from their jobs or snatched up to take others, and thousands of coaches will be left wondering if they even have a job or where the next paycheck might come from.

Coaches get tired this time of year. And when you are tired, the devil seems to work harder on you. If you leave the door cracked, he will find a way in. This year, whether you're a coach who is worn down from job anxiety, or you're an athlete who is tired after a long season, don't be the president of the worry department. Don't let your problems wear you down. In fact, don't tell God how big your problems are; tell your problems how big your God is! After all, He's the One who created the Heavens and the earth. He's the One who conquered sin and death. He has a plan--a perfect plan just for you.

And besides, coaches, just remember this: If you do change jobs, it’s never the one you earned or thought you deserved, but the one God gave you.

Go

1. Coaches, are you spending more time chasing down rumors of other jobs than you are reading the Word? If you're not a coach, what is distracting you from spending time with God?
2. In troubled times, does your faith strengthen or weaken?
3. In times of transition, who do you lean on?
4. What do you need to change today in order to better trust God?
