Keep Your Eyes Forward
“Let your eyes look forward; fix your gaze straight ahead.” – Proverbs 4:25
When we are led well, we can perform well. Coaches are called to be leaders and automatically have a team of players dependent on them, looking to them for advice, encouragement, energy, guidance, answers, and an example. A coach’s role is vital in an athlete’s life, on and off the field, and has significant influence. Without a coach, a team would be lost. But who leads the coach? Who does he or she depend on for direction?
Everyone needs someone to look up to for encouragement and leadership. Do not forget that God is your Ultimate Coach. When you feel distracted, discouraged, or unsure and don’t know where to turn next, remember that God never leads you astray but will guide you on the right path. Don’t look anywhere else – look straight at God. Keep your eyes and heart focused on Him, and give Him your undivided attention. Not only does God lead us well, but there are no flaws in His leadership. Why would you look anywhere else?
If athletes stay focused on their coach's goals and direction, they experience growth, success, and victory in their sport. In the same way, if you keep your eyes focused on Coach Jesus and fixed on the prize, it is more difficult to be tempted by anything to the left or to the right that is less than what God has for you. As your Coach, God has gone ahead of you. He knows what you need. Victory lies in keeping your eyes fixed on Coach Jesus.
- Do you rely on God to lead you?
- Where do you look for encouragement and leadership?
Psalm 23:1-6; Proverbs 3:5-6; Philippians 4:6-7
“Heavenly Father, Help me to keep my eyes fixed on You and You alone. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.”
